About the College of Agriculture

At MSU’s College of Agriculture, we grow leaders.

MSU was founded in 1893 as the Agricultural College of the State of Montana. Today, the College of Agriculture is an integral part of fulfilling MSU’s land-grant mission to provide a liberal, practical education to the sons and daughters of Montana.

As part of the College of Agriculture, the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) conducts research on old and new challenges for Montana’s agricultural community. MAES creates opportunities for students and faculty to excel through hands-on learning, to serve through campus and community engagement, to explore unique solutions to distinct and interesting questions and to connect Montanans with the global community.

Meet Grace...

Grace, from Livingston, Montana, is starting her senior year at Montana State. She is studying biotechnology with an emphasis in animal science. She chose this degree because she wants to become a veterinarian.

“I grew up on a farm with the typical farm animals, such as cows, horses, sheep, goats, cats, dogs, chickens and every other animal that needed a home, which sparked my interest in agriculture. I decided I wanted to become a veterinarian when I was around 12 years old. One day, our horse got tangled up in some barbed wire, and our veterinarian came by to help us. I was so happy that she could help my horse get better and I wanted to be able to do the same thing. I have been working toward that goal for as long as I can remember,” Grace said.

The College of Agriculture Dean’s Excellence Fund can help students like Grace when they need resources to pursue their dreams or when they face struggles or challenges. But those funds only exist if donors like you give. Your gift, of any amount, makes a difference for our agriculture students.

Grace is grateful for the support she has received from donors like you. Thanks to our caring community of supporters, Grace is finding success at MSU and is on her way to achieving her life-long goal. She even had the opportunity to conduct research in her field for three years as an undergraduate, working with Dr. Amanda Bradbery in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences for the last two years.

“I want to learn as much as possible at MSU in order to better myself and my community,” Grace said. “MSU has provided me many resources and support to be prepared for veterinary school after graduation. My research with Dr. Bradbery is concentrated on equine maternal nutrition and equine physiology.”

She is thankful for alumni and friends who want to stay connected to today’s students and make a difference for them.

“Thank you so much for supporting me through my studies at Montana State University. I am so honored,” Grace said.

The impact of your gift

As the state’s public land-grant university, MSU relies on private financial support to advance its mission by sustaining and growing educational opportunities. By contributing to the Dean’s Excellence Fund, you open the door to expanded experiences for students, including opportunities to conduct research, attend an academic conference, participate in outreach, take on leadership roles in student activities or apply their knowledge and creativity to a project.
